The 95 came with dino oil from the factory. They made the switch in mid-97, I think, and specified the synth oil as the replacement for all NGs when doing gearbox work. So, you may have had it. Out of the bottle, it's decidedly reddish, I don't know if the color survives the long haul.
You might want to go to synth anyway, it's better shifting and even Saab admits it's better for the box. You just have to flush it (just an extra step of a 1 quart fill/run it a little/drain it).
There's a bunch of stuff people use, but it's got to be synth gear oil. Of course there's Saab's oil, but it's pricey. People use Redline MTL, Castrol 75w-90 Lube, Mobil1 Gear Lube, and one of the AMSOIL oils (the type escapes me but it's highly recommended).
Personally, my synchros are getting a little tired, so I'm looking for something a little heavier like RedLine MT-90. (3rd complains once in a while.) But I've used most of the ones above and they all shifted much better than the dino oil. Note, the change takes a few hundred miles to really take effect.
