Betsy,
Congrats on the 'new ' car!
The service you listed included:
>60K:
>MAJOR TUNE AND SERVICE
>Change engine oil & filter, check all other fluid levels, replace air and >fuel filters, inspect valves, brakes, tires, suspension, exhaust and >cooling systems. Inspect/adjust ignition and fuel systems. Safety >inspection and road test.
>Also: adjust shift linkage, road test, no problems with shifter noted. >Mount and balance new Falken 502 tires.
>[Parts: air & fuel filters, sparkplugs, oil filter, Castrol, drain plug >washer, cabin filter, Weatherpro coolant, Multidrive 4cyl Belt (is this >the Serpentine???), Castrol P/S fluid, Castrol Trans Oil, Falken 502 >tires.]
This would apper to include the serpentine belt (only drive belt on the 2.0L turbo so 'Multidrive 4 cyl Belt' must be this), and also the the coolant ('Weatherpro coolant').
Maybe power steering fluid was changed ('Castrol P/S fluid', by the way only the late 1997 and later Saabs used the Pentosin CHF 11S synthetiic power steering fluid, the earlier models used standard GM power steering fluid).
Given your situation and the service records, I would probably have the spark plugs changed and the brake fluid changed at the next oil change. You could either switch to synthetic oil and go to 5,000 mile oil and filter changes or stick to regular oil and 3,000 mile oil and filter changes (my personal choice is synthetic).
Having the coolant thermostat changed, along with new coolant, and the coolant hoses checked would be a good choice if you have the extra money or time.
Ask the SF Saab club for the name of a good independent mechanic. Explain your situation (history of car and financial) and your expectations (reliable transportation, long road trips, etc.) to the mechanic. Let the independent mechanic do what work you don't want to do, or have time or skill for. Even without you asking, a good mechanic should look over the vehicle for any signs of early parts failure. Knowing the history of the car and your situation and needs, the mechanic can recommend would needs to be done soon verses what can be put off until later.
Just a note, while my list of service items is through it is also very conservative. I tend to 'over mantain' my cars. I have been accused by more than one mechanic of being a bit fanatical about maintenance. On the other hand I keep my cars for 12-15 years and have never been left stranded or had any major engine problems.
One day, I came to pick-up my car from service to find the head mechanic and a couple customers standing around my car staring at the spotless engine compartment with its engraved 'Use Mobil 1 oil only' plaque. The mechanic said he was showing the customers how it should be done, but I think he was just jealous. :^)
