my wife got hit from behind yesterday while she was stopped in traffic. the driver that hit her pushed her car forward about 4 feet into the car in front of her. the exterior damage to her saab was minimal- back bumper scraped up and the trunk won't close, front bumper a little crunched, but no damage to the body of the car. BUT, internally, something's up.
the car shudders when shifting from park to reverse, and really shudders when shifting from neutral to drive. plus the car sounds like a harley now. there's a major exhaust leak somewhere.
the car was towed to barrier saab in seattle, much to the dismay of the offender's insurance company. they wanted it to go to a local garage. the insurance co. said that their insured called and said "i had a little accident. i 'tapped' another car from behind.'" funny, when he got out to see if my wife was okay, he told her he was surprised the hatchback glass of her car didn't shatter because he hit her so hard. he also didn't mention to his insurance co. that her car was pushed forward into another car.
so there was a question in here somewhere. has anyone had a similar accident, where they've been hit from behind at about 15-25 miles per hour? is it possible to have structural/frame damage to the car with an impact at those speeds? what kinds of things are easily dislodged with that kind of impact?
thanks in advance- sorry so wordy.
