1994 SEt 5spd. cpe. "ticket me" Imola Red
OK. All this talk of happy MBC owners is beginning to infect my sanity. Over the last three years I have been coerced into a sport exhaust (actually, the BACK half of sport exhaust to keep things quieter), K&N air filter, and air box mod cannabalized from an old leaf blower. I never noticed any performance gains or change in gas mileage - nothing. My new shocks and struts really dont make much of a difference. The only "upgrades" that had any impact were the SAS swaybar (my old one broke and fell off), and the Greenstuff front brake pads (old pads/rotors were shot).
Dawes offers two MBC's, a "super duty" and a "full race" version. Based on the pictures on the website they look to be virtually identical. They claim the race version has lighter components that allow a quicker response and that the race version is "more durable". Sounds good in theory.
I assume most of you who have done this are using the Dawes device, probably the "super duty" one. Any problems with durability? Would the response time "advantage" of the race version make it worth an extra 35 clams? Anyone have experience with the newer "race" version? Anyone screw up a motor with over boost conditions? Anyone have a picture of their install?
This stuff still looks like it was cobbled together from the spare parts bin at a local hardware store. Probably five bucks worth of materials. But if it makes the car more drivable...what the hell, lets go for it.
