I had the exact same problem -- I live in Boston. I have a 1998 900s Turbo Coupe.
Anyway, I got a breaker bar and got underneath the car and instantly snapped off the head of one of the bolts and gave up.
I ended up bringing the car to Mecca Motors in Allston, and they took care of it on their life. Charged me $48, which I think was acceptable.
In the end, I think it would have been possible to hammer out the bolts, since I don't believe they are threaded in the holes. I didn't see the mechanic at Mecca use any power tools to get the old bar off... just hammer and awl (i think).
ANYWAY, whatever you do, do it -- the bar is great. No complaints at all from me or anyone who has ridden in my car. My girlfriend is happy that the car doesn't toss her around every time there's a curve.
