Howdy,
I have a 97 SE turbo 5sp and live in Denver.
It's been pretty hot here.
My findings are that the AC will cut into my power a
lot when starting. It takes a few more RPMs to get on
the power if the AC is running. Usually not a big deal I just rev
it up 300-500 more RPMs to compensate. However if I need
to get a good start I will turn the AC to economy and
this cuts the compressor out of the loop.
Once I get on the highway or in constant motion the AC
doesn't seem to cut into it too much. I think you just
have to get past both the AC and turbo lag.
I have not noticed any loss of power just based on heat.
Sometimes when it is in the low 90's and I am just puttering
around town I will leave the AC off to save the stress on the
car and it moves as good in 90f as it does at 30 or 60 f.
bests
