however, you should be able to adjust it to avoid fuel cut and still get way above stock pressures. I found out by trial and error that if I wait until just past 3000 rpm to go WOT, I wouldn't get the boost spikes that cause fuel cuts. But, if I go WOT at say, 2500 rpm in 4th or 5th gear the boost would spike around 3000 rpm and create a fuel cut. So, also, perhaps a small adjustment in driving style would help.
But, actually, I am an advocate for upgraded ECU's. The software writer has an opportunity to modify timing and fueling as well to better take advantage of the raised boost pressures. The added ability to keep the computer in full control is a nice piece of mind as well. I do somewhat talk a double standard though, I now use a Dawes MBC with my upgraded ECU for a somewhat outrageous power increase!
I do not know exact boost pressures as of right now but, I guess I am running at least 18-20 psi since I can get the boost needle to around 3/4's red. I am waiting for a boost gauge, among others so I can better monitor my engine. I also have Aquamist water injection and now a 3" downpipe and race kat to help everything out. I have read my plugs numerous times since doing these upgrades and they haven't changed in appearance since.
The new found power is a blast!
Have fun!
