I too have a 2.3 900s (1996) and I am starting to hear a bit of a whir sound, not metalic or clunky at all, more like a rubber belt sound. my serp belt was changed 30k ago, and i understand i should change it every 60k, and the noise is coming from that area. the chain is inside the housing right? so i can't see it/hear it directly if it WAS that. This is a really really really quiet sound right now, but I can just hear it and when i pop the hood I can verify it, but am just wondering if this is an early warning sign of balance chain problems or maybe idler pulley. Any guesses yet? If not, i'll just forget about it until it starts to really fail whatever it might be.
