I don't have any complaints about the stock amp for the door speakers. I did have to try several sets of speakers before I found a set I was happy with, some Boston Acoustics ProSeries woofers. Even though it only puts out 40 watts, it has enough power to drive some 6.5" speakers to their mechanical limit. I had some MB Quart reference speakers bottom out very easily in the doors. Even the Bostons can bottom out if the bass is all the way up on bass-heavy music, but they put out more bass than the stock speakers. You'll never fix the lack of bass in the back with just new speakers. The head unit only puts out about 12 watts, which is not enough to generate much bass in 6 x 9 speakers. You'll need to add a seperate amp for that. I had three-way Infinity Kappas in the back of my car, but since most of the sound you hear comes from the front speakers, it's not necessary to have their best three-ways back there. You could do just fine with two-way speakers. Some manufacturers, like Boston Acoustics, use a two-way design for their best speakers. There are well-designed two-ways and poorly-designed three-ways.
