With 144000 miles, it was messy. Not giving me any problems. But after reading posts by others I though I would have a go. You definately need carb cleaner. The down stream side of the valve was the worst. The turbulance throws vapor drops and solids out as a result of the vorticies in the turbulance. And at idle, the rapid expansion cools the mess as well which helps create condensation.
I had been cautions about using carb cleaner. It can eat some plastics up, and will definately mess up your paint work. So be carefull, and work with some ventilation. As others reported, no plastic is evident in the valve end of the IAC. I suggest keeping the electrial end up to minimize the cleaner from getting into the valve shaft. The valve unit is rotational.
I cleaned over a white class bowel to be able to see what came out. Lots of black in a sticky matrix. The deposits were visually thick on the internal parts before cleaning. So most of it looks like what you would expect. Blow by gasses with soot from on boost situations.
The TBTC looked very clean and did not feel oily. With the new Viggen IC, I am sure that alot of the blow by crud ends up in there too. I should have slopped some paint thinner around in the old IC to see that was in there. But its packed away.
