Thank you for your display of ignorance.
Yes turbos have limits. You just don't see them failing on the NG's with MBC's or basic ECU mods. So they are not failing. Meanwhile we have bad head bolt torque, failing head gaskets, failing balance and timing chains. So the levels of turbo failures with these apllications is not on the radar scope. Yes, some turbos can be bad and fail, but these are occuring on unmodified vehicles and a manufacturing defect is a manufacturing defect. The turbos on the NG's a simply not a weak link.
Anyone who is going beyond a MBC or a Basic ECU mod will be learning enough along the road to know that they can't go beyond certain limits with any turbo. But for the folks doing basic mods, there is no concern at all. BTW, the Basic Abbott mods and others are over 16 PSI. These have been proven to be safe.
So where is your evidence that the K&N has a problem? You state that is it a POS, then close you post that you switch it end for end all of the time. So you use it or you don't? The conformal suround of the filter takes the shape of the filter box, and a mature, heat distorted, filter box is not symetrical end for end. So if you swap it end for end, you are asking for a seal leak, and dirt can leak around the seal. Folks have learned this from experience, ignore this at your peril. Don't be shooting your mouth off making everyone else think that this is not an important detail.
The K&N does increase high end torque and improves turbo spool up. No you will not see drastic changes at lower RPMs and flow rates. When you make other mods, the K&N will be working well with the higher CFMs.
I have tested my K&N. I oil the filter box lid, down stream side of the filter, I swab it with a white tissue during my annual filter service. No sign of dirt after a year. And the back side of the filter element looks perfectly clean and 'dew' drops of filter oil on that side are are clear and bright like rubies. This K&N has been in use for 7.5 years.
So all the folks who find that the TBTC does work as claimed and echo the same findings are all idiots? Makes me wonder who the idiot really is. You don'y need a dyno test to know that this works. You want everyone to believe that this sharp edged restriction that creates huge turbulance right before the elbow and throttle plate has no effect. The turbulance is so bad that there is uneven charging of the cylinders. Thats why things get smoother. You are making the mistake of equating smoothess with less power. I would be inerested in seeing your work as well. Go read a few books on turbo charging and performance engines.
The funnel mod is a good change, but the dynamic flow losses created by the ~2" flow section are not reduced. You need a bigger flow cross section. The funnel mod was great as a first step as it was reversable. I hope to toss my funnel mod soon. With the Viggen IC, it will be interesting to see how this one change works out. It is clearly the weak link in my configuration.
I can't see that you are offering anything constructive to whose who want to improve their Saabs. All you are doing is creating fear and doubt (FUD). You should be contributing to the goal of helping others learn and understand. You are comming across as a spoiler.
