I can see how a 5W would help with fuel consumption overall. However, I rest my SID when I get through the city traffic and on the expressway. So the engine is aways fully heated up for my mpg readings. This elimiates the effects of stop and go driving in the town before the highway run and eliminates the effect of temperature changes on the engine warm up process etc. So there should be no first order difference between a 5W40 and 10W40. So my reports running Delvac are not reporting a reduction of fuel consumption that is explained by the 5W when my engine is warm.
