One tip, start with a smaller drill to center in stud.

I usually start with a 1/8 drill and a support collar. And most of the time, I can get the stud out by using that size extractor.
By using a bigger drill, you risk drilling into the threads, and that will lock the stud in place.
Don't drill to deep in the beginning, but more or less make a mark on the stud to see if you are centered.
By getting the first hole as centered as possible, you help yourself a lot if the stud doesn't come out with the smaller extractor.
I also try to get the stud to go further in to begin with and take an bigger drill to the remove the first two outer threads in cyl head. Those are the threads that clamps around the stud and make it hard to extract.
When after removing those threads, the stud comes out with almost no problems at all.
