For years and years, I replaced the 4 long studs every time the exhaust manifold was off. A couple of years later, the gasket had started to slide again and it was leaking.
For the last two years, I use the shorter studs all over and it seems to be working so far.
And to your question, the four outer studs uses a spacer if you wanna stick with that configuration. Do you have seven or 10 studs holding the manifold?
Some models uses 10 studs (like non turbo)
If it's only 7. The three in the middle are short and the 4 on left and right are long.
