But I can’t honestly recommend it. I bought my 1995 900S 2.3L a few months after I got my license. I've been driving the car for about 2.5 years now and love the car. I love to drive it; I can haul a ton of stuff in it with the back seat up and even more with it down. Most people who ride in it assume that it is a much newer car than it actually is.

Now for the bad news. My car has been extremely expensive to maintain. I am still to scared to add up all my repair bills to see how much money I have sunk into the money pit. Some of the big jobs have been clutch and assorted seals $800 Shift Linkage $550 Gas tank leaking issues $400 and it looks like I'm going to be spending about another grand on a new tranny in the next few days. All this plus lots of little things flex pipe, muffler, rear shocks, bearing in the alternator, distributor cap and wires. And on top of all these things there are going to be basic wear and tear items. Breaks, tires, oil, coolant, ect. Oh and lastly gas

I must admit my father told me all of these things before I bought the car but did I listen no. It’s hard to understand exactly how expensive cars are to maintain until you actually own one.

Get a 5 speed no matter what. I bought mine without knowing and picked it up really quick. Driving the car will be so much more fun with a stick than an auto. You’re also going to save yourself some money buying a manual car vs. an automatic. I'm from CT and currently go to school in RI. All the bad winters and hills are no reason to go auto.

You need to decide how much you enjoy the act of driving. Are you just looking to get from point A to point B, or do you love to o play in the twisties. Are you willing to put a lot of money into a car you love, or do you want a boring econobox that you just have to put gas in and go. If you don’t even have you license yet there’s a good chance you can't answer this yet. I wouldn’t make a big deal of having a car the first day you get your license. You’ve waited 16.5 years to get it; you can go 2-3 months driving your parent’s cars while deciding on what type of car you really want.

Remember NG 900’s are great cars but you have to be prepared to put anywhere from $100-200 of work into them every month.
