Granted, if you're in high school, you probably don't have a steady or high income to maintain a Saab - but you also have parents' cars to drive, and probably don't need long distance reliability - so its a perfect time to buy a car for its character rather than its reliability.
I just picked up a '96 900 SEt, for $4000. Granted it has 160k miles on it, but I do almost all of my own maintenence, and have a couple of motorcycles to drive in the summer if the car is down for major overhauls. BUT, you had better be a gear-head and like auto-repair, or it may be expensive for maintence.
Finally, insurance-wise Saabs are pretty good. I sold a 1991 Plymouth laser, 1.8L base-model for my '96 turbo. With about 4 tickets constantly on my record, and being a 26 year old single male, my insurance actually went DOWN $50 a half.
Weigh the options, and if you want a Saab, go for it....you can always sell it in a year or two when you go to college or get a job.
