Coming out of the engine front, going toward the rear of the car; you should have the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, flex pipe, rear muffler, tail pipe. All of these are connected with pipes and you have a hole in one of these pipes somewhere. You can identify the spot based on the sound and exhaust gases escaping from that spot. If you can not, then one of those quick-fit places(i.e.Midas?) as you call them, can put the car on a lift and show you the spot and estimate the cost of repair. At this day and age, all shops will know about items such as cats. Usually, though, they are refitters and will want to replace all that goes after the item at fault. I recently changed only the flex pipe which had a hole in it without much grief, and left the other exhaust components around it alone. It is relatively easy to do on this car.
