Just in case anyone is interested, I had the new muffler fitted this morning in a Quick-Fit place. They had an exact replica of the SAAB muffler even the connections fitted perfectly with no banging and hammering as was previously mentioned as something to worry about. Actually the car sounds great now and much better than before so my muffler must have been a bit bad when I got the car. I do know that it was sitting idle for over three months so this could have allowed the muffler to corrode as was explained to me by some engineer who I work with who seems to know a lot about this stuff and I certainly aint contradicting him. Anyway you should have seen the muffler. I tore a 18 inch split in the side and nearly all the baffle material was blown out. Interestingly there is a metal plate attached to the side of the gas tank which seems to be there to protect the gas tank from type of thing.

Thanks again for your advice. It allowed me to relax a bit more while away.
