Engine stumbling, gas smell - (long)

94 900SET, 90,000kms
K&N, done airbox mod, TBTC
dealer service (fluids, plugs, etc at about 88,000kms)
I've noticed a lack of power and a gas smell when backing up to park, thought it was the gas tank cap or fuel leak but could never find it.
The engine started stumbling in higher gears on load last Saturday so I brought it to the dealer.
They hooked it up to the Tech2 and said its a possible O2 sensor on its way out. They were nice enough to pull it out, clean up the area, checked for the 12V imput, high resistance and even checked the plugs and the DI spark operation - quite interesting. They said the gas smell was from unburnt gas in the exhaust (some ECU function that regulates the amount of gas related to the oxygen sensor reading). The Tech2 now reads clear, but they've asked me to use the car for a few days to see how it goes.
While there, I also asked to check on previous replacements-
DI, serp belt + 2 pulleys, clutch all changed at 60,000 kms.
The car does seem much livelier, but feels almost on the threshold of wanting to stumble again. Should I go back and just get the O2 sensor changed for peace of mind?
For info - dealers' recommended change interval for DI is every 80,000 km, and fuel pump every 100,000 km. Sound fair?
