Sorry, I was wrong earlier. That's what happens when Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 96 NG900s 2.3 new engine/no temp gadge, david, Mon, 5 May 2003 09:50:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
working on two different brand of cars. Volvo uses the cylinder head for ground on some of their two wire sensors.
Do you have a 5 volt signal coming to the temp sensor from engine wire harness?
One of the two wires should have 5V with ign on, the other Ground.
Did you get the cooling fan to come on without having to turn the A/C on.
The temp signal from that sensor is used to turn on the cooling fan and give a temp gauge reading. But it is done so through two different parts of the computer system of the car.
If the cooling fan is cycling on/off (without the help of A/C button) but the temp gauge is still dead, you can rule the temp sensor circuit out.
And start to focus on the temp gauge circuit alone.
It might be that the circuit board/ECU behind speedo/gauge cluster have gone bad.
That have happened several times, and the cure is to replace the back part of speedo cluster.
This circuit can to a certain extend be tested with the help of a Tech 2 tester by force running the different gauges.
If all the other gauges can be run by that method, it's a big chance that something have gone bad in the temp gauge/ECU circuit.
Do you have a Saab shop close by, they could probably do this test in less than an hour.
