With your usage you are a perfect candidate for 10k mile oil changes. It is what SAAB recommends in the US. A good synthetic will have the legs to last that long without any problems. However, if you are OK with changing oil every 3k miles (almost every month for you,) then good non-synthetic is more appropriate. I would think that having to change oil every 4 month would be better.

BTW, 10k mile intervals are not extreme at all. Honda and Mazda now recommend 10k between oil changes. In the UK, SAAB recommends 12k miles between changes. Many new cars in Europe require fresh oil/filter every 20k miles and more. Assuming proper synthetic oil is used, of course.
