hi all,
here's the issue. '96 900SEt, 170k miles, auto climate control. I bought a couple of cans of R134 at walmart, along with the hookup hose kit, and a temperature/pressure check kit. My temps at the vents, with the 6" thermometer read about 90 degrees after running the a/c for 10-20 minutes. The pressure gauge didn't move at all when I checked it at the low presssure fitting - not even to the low setting. But I did hear a very slight release of air, so I'm pretty sure the guage was opening the valve when applied. I ran the a/c with the temp set at both "low" and 58 degrees, recirc air, and econ turned off.
I hooked up the can, to the valve near the battery (the only one the hose fits on, and from my understanding, it's the low pressure hose).
Everything seemed to be hooked up tight, but the system wouldn't pull any refrigerant out of the can (right sid up or upside down). After about 15-20 minutes of nothing happening, I unhooked it (and freon sprayed out of the end of the hose, so the can was punched open). Does this indicate that the compressor isn't running? How do I know if it is running? Sound? I can't really hear much with the engine also running. Can I run the compressor with the engine off?
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
jesse
