Clutch making "popping" noises.

Recently, the last couple of weeks, my clutch makes a popping sound when depressed. The feeling is that this sound is comming from the pedal. I inspected the pedal and nothing obvious was noticed. It sort of feels as if some plastic part was re-setting itself. My gut feeling is that it is the clutch cable (one on the way). This brings me to the next question. Is changing the Clutch cable a DIY? I saw some of the explanations and I question:
How many beers does it takes to change a clutch cable?
Note for reference: Changing Brake pads: 3 beers, 2 before the job starts, once during :)
Changing Radiator Hoses (all of them) 5 beers
Changing Rotors: 4 Beers
Fixing Fog lights: 2 Beers
Fixing Door lock (replacement of motors) 3 beers.
As you can see 3 beers is my "easy" mark :)
Thanks in advance.
