It sucks so much doesn't it! Freakin GM. I switched to a manually adjustable cable when I replaced my clutch (without the self adjusting spring). It took 2 months of adjusting to get dialed in, then worked for 1 year, but it had a really hard time adjusting to changes in temperature as the rubber at either end softened, so in really hot weather the friction point was near the floor, when cold it was at the top.
Last week I switched back to the Saab OEM one. I guess you are right. Replacing it every 50K is probably what is necessary.
Have you tried the Saab Bulletin on adding a 2nd washer to the firewall? Maybe worth a look. thesaabsite.com has all the bullitens for the NG900...its in there. May be able to buy some more time.
