I have a 96 SET Conv.
What is loud to some may be quiet to others so keeping that in mind here is what I experienced.
I recently had to replace the muffler and in that process realized the resonator was not installed. The previous owner had a receipt from Midas so my guess is they just patched the system to get it to work. The setup was just pipe with the muffler located behind the rear wheel and some welded hooks on the pipe and muffler for the hangers.
I brought the exhaust back to the way it should be and it is a lot quieter with the resonator. At high speeds, the radio had to be turned up and conversations were louder, I used to think it was due to the wind noise of the convertible.
When the time comes you could probably omit the resonator, try it out and if it's to loud put the resonator back in.
