My '94 Turbo has a stainless steel sports rear muffler and a straight pipe through to the intermediate flex joint. No resonator. This was courtesy of the previous owner and I didn't realise that this wasn't standard until very recently. This mod may have been made to enhance the sports rear muffler, or it could be the previous owner was trying to save a few bucks before selling the car on. I've just bought a new intermediate flex joint and was thinking about adding the resonator back in, but in 2 years I've never been bothered by excessive noise so I've decided to stick with the straight pipe and save the cash. Personally, I like the effect of the system, it sounds sportier without being too loud. I'm not sure how dropping the resonator would sound with a stock rear muffler though.
