In my NG900 car manual it states ",024in". One day my car was running badly (often at idle) and the car wanted to die. I decided to look at the plugs. It was the first time since I had buy the car from the dealer (used car). The gap was more ,039 than ,024 in. I regapped them to ,024 and the idle was normal after that. I learned that SAAB car use the spark plugs as a knock sensor (no joke!). As the piston go upward, it compress the fuel/air mixture. This create an ionisation at the tip of the plug and induce a voltage that is send back to the computer. This is why the gap is critical to a certain point. I tough that a wider gap was more fuel efficient as the spark is longer and burned more fuel. Anyway go to the link below it will answer your question.
