To old for synthetic oil

At the risk of opening a can of worms here, I've been reading back through the forum and have got the impression that if one hasn't moved to synthetic oils reasonably early in a cars life, then it may not be a good idea. So I have a couple of questions that I would like your opinions on please
1. Is 113000 too high for the move to synthetics?
2. I note that some leaks have been reported, where are these leaks, and can they be repaired economically?
3. Is Mobil 1 the oil of choice, or should I look at others
4. Are any of the non-synthetic oils (like Castrol High Milage) going to give similar benefits, help solve sludge etc.
Thanks,
John
