Run Premium Octane. Nothing less especially when increasing boost.
Yes, the stock BPV is honking and will need to be replaced as it can't handle the increased boost. You can go Metal Piston Style, or go to the Viggen BPV for less $. I opted for the Forge valve, but the Viggen BPV can handle the increase without issue. They are about $50 but still not serviceable.
Not sure about the ping sound. Maybe Dean will chime in.
You might consider the MBC+A setup and moving the mbc tap to the TB. Adding a Air Pressure Regulator has done well with dealing with overshoots and moving the MBC tap to the TB allows for better and longer boost without drooping at higher RPMs. Search "drs_anticipator" on the 9-3 BB for more info on that.
