Can a repaint be as good as OEM?

Saabers: I 'm one of those car nuts who allow my eyes to run across the body of a car....searching for flaws. I consistently see OEM paint jobs coming out much better than the repaints..even ones that cost 4,000 dollars! My friend has a Triumph in which the paintjob costs 3500.00. When the gem was pulled out of the garage for inspection..I picked up numerous flaws. While the paint was neat, it seamed thick in some areas and the traditonal waves were present.
My question is..has anyone seen a repaint that is superior to OEM? I know that the OEM paint is durable for it is baked at a higher temp then even an oven baked finish which is advertised at bodyshops.
But one day, I came across some brand new cars in back of a Ford dealership, and one would be surprised at the dullness of the paint on those cars..so it was proof that detailing definitely brings a car paint to life. So is it that the repaints which usually appear hazy compared to an OEM job are lacking a professional detail? Please shed some light
Thank You
