for one thing. I wonder if Saab keeps a tab on the DI failure rate, say per 1,000 car, between the red DIs and the black DIs. My guess is that even with the same failure rate, we expect to hear more about failed DI from 9-5 owners as there are just a lot more out there.
I have two 9Ks, one of them a non-turbo, had the DI gone south at 80+K miles but I partly attributed that to my neglect. I didn't change plugs on that car for a very long time and I believe the plug gaps widened too much and stressed the DI out. The other 9K, an Aero, hasn't had problem as I changed or re-gapped the plugs more often.
We also have a 2003 9-5 Aero, yes, it does worries me reading all those dead DI reports and it is my wife's current driver. I am not ready to buy a spare DI and put it in the trunk yet. Someone surmised that failure in the black DI was temperature related as we got more DI failures during hot weather.
I think Saab probably has some idea about the failure but not sure we would hear the answer to that. Anyone here happens to work on this problem at Saab ?
