I'm not Japanese, but during grad school I lived there for a year to write my (now tediously boring) thesis on farming and economics... Well, anyway, my Japanese doctor, a real MD and all, told me that drinking too much water is terrible for your digestive system and causes nutrients in food to not be absorbed properly by the body. I realize the same can be said for too much green tea, but I think this doctor's point was to keep it all in balance. So, you know, i'm not sure if the 64oz is balanced or not but maybe meal time might not always be the best time to downb all of your water. (?)
I was also cautioned against store bought, processed fruit juices, as the nutrients found in these are off-set by the very high sugar content. Basically, Japanese doctors try to steer people away from sweets altogether.
