...about it. With repeated use, a tolerance to the diuretic effect occurs (smart kidneys). Interestingly, the stimulant effect on the brain does not seem to wane with repeated use (what does this say about the brain?).
As an irregular coffee drinker, I am keenly aware of this diuresis, and I do try to keep up with it by drinking some extra water.
I'm not sure how you are "think[ing] about it." That's what a diuretic does, it's a chemical and it makes you excrete more water than normal. Diuretics work in tablet form, also: no water in, much water out.
Your references are pertinent to athletes and are somewhat misleading. Caffeine has a multitude of effects on athletic performance, many of them positive. So a mild diuresis is probably nothing to worry about for a trained athlete. Note point number 10 of your second reference: alcohol is also a mild diuretic, and its diuretic effect is cited as one potentially negative effect for athletes. It's true for EtOH and it's true for caffeine.
