I found this post on another board I frequent, what do you guys and gals think about this?

I hang at another Auto board in which a LAPD officer posts often. This was a reply to the Brits planning on putting in tattletail boxes that report when you break the law. Then a computer generates a ticket and mails it to you.
If you don't pay the ticket they send a signal to the box that kills the car until you do pay.
Here is what is in the new cars with the OnStar systems.

Want to know something scary???

In every Onstar equipped vehicle there is a communications link between the ECM/BCM and the transponder that Onstar uses for functions like unlocking your doors but did you know the link called the J-Bus also reports in real time your vehicle speed, GPS coorinates if a 3D satellite fix is available, what key is inserted in the ignition and what station you happen to be listening to on the broadcast radio?

Now what Im about to share some feel is classified, I say hooey.

The Onstar system is also available to every Law Enforcement person who requests the information and we can actually shut down your vehicle while you are driving. The reason for this is so LEO's can stop a potentially dangerous chase before it happens. This would be the likes of criminal vehicular operations, felony evasion, kidnappings ect. LEOs can also modify the speed of every GM and others who use the "fly by wire" throttle controls meaning if a LEO wanted to set a speed of say 45 in a 70 we could do this by targeting a known GPS blanket area and vehicles with a matching ESN in the PCM data would respond by a lookup table to find fly by wire cars and SUV's and close down the throttle and nothing a driver could do about it.

What to do about it? First dont tell my captain

Second in all Onstar equipped vehicles you will find a "black box" made of sheet aluminum that is buried under the dash or in close proximity of the ECM that has Motorola stamped on it along with several wires going to a wiring harness along with two thin coax cables that lead to the PCS/GPS antenna group that is mounted on the exterior of all Chevrolet built trucks and the dashboard of all passenger cars. One cable will be on a mini-TNC connector and the other will be a SMA type. Just pull the cables that lead to the vertical PCS antenna. You want to keep the GPS alive for the real-time clock and if pulled the GPS will go dorment for a set period of time before it goes into a search. If it can not complete a satellite search it will put the vehicle into a limp back-up condition and throw a service light. The communications to the outside world depends on the PCS and soon to be Nextel land communications network. Well if no towers are available it can't communicate. If no antenna is present it also can't communicate unless its very close to a tower, 300 feet or less and even if it does hit a tower it can't send the data fast enough to complete its "transaction" and will store it in a buffer until that runs out of room. What you are doing in effect is making it think that you are in an area of limited coverage but resets itself when a PCS signal is present.

Bet you are wondering how I know this?

I have used the stun function a few times to catch DWI drivers. Right now the system is slow and relies on communication with the dispatcher to call the local providers of the Onstar system and request the vehicle be stunned.
Dont be alarmed though, soon the stun function will be available in every squad car that is equipped with the MCDT system and the officer will have a direct connection to the Onstar system.

Now before you go ripping your dash apart go get yourself a copy of the FACTORY service book for the body AND engine controls. With the diversity of assembly plants car makers have not standardized the locations of everything just yet. Our first Impalas had the VTS box located in the trunk of all places, just to the rear of the back shelf speaker and had a bi-di link back to the main J-Bus, later ones are located above the glove box and I believe the others are locating them under a false floor just to the front of the passenger seat.
I dont have the wire codes for the J-Bus but Im working on them.

As far as the EU nations go I would NEVER even consider a visit to any of the EU countries, not even to get a real E-code volvo for free. EU officials treat US cops like crap not to mention I have no intention of turning over my badge to any of them as they demand all US LEOs to do.

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT it all, EU has become a dictatorship but when the followers lead the leaders will follow.
I will leave my personal feelings of the EU nations out of this post.
