Sorry about my apparent tone. I wasn't mad, and I didn't mean to dismiss your personal opinions about the aesthetics, I was just presenting my own as well. That's why I called the Echo the dorkmobile. Pretty good nickname isn't it? I also call the Element the "X-Box" and the Camry the "Marshmallowmobile" :-)
I do appreciate feedback, but I'm very sensitive to Saturn-bashing because of things in the past like center-console mounted window-switches which people don't like on Saturns but never complain about on BMWs. I typically get the feeling from Saturn critics that new ideas are dismissed simply because they are on Saturns.
Echo did have center-mounted gages first, and now the Scions and Quest have them. We'll see how the press reacts to them on those vehicles now that they've generally expressed a dislike for them on Saturns. As for the rumor about it being used for global IPs, that is not true because the cluster is not symmetrical, the gages are angled, and would require different parts and tooling for a RHD vehicle. In fact,we don't even make any RHD Saturns anymore.
Take it easy,
Atul
