I just found out this week that I get to (read: "have to") go to China for 2 weeks. I'm leaving in 10 days. My mission is to go to Shenyang (NE part of China, not far from N. Korea) and teach folks from my company how to automate the assembly shops in auto plants. Luckily I've had a guy from that office over to the USA a few years ago and taught him a few things about some other systems used in car plants. Then I get to pitch one of these systems to a customer with the help of our sales force over there, and probably some techies.
So, has anyone on TSN been to China? Any tips for a traveller who has never been to Asia, but has been all over N. America, Europe, and spent a little time in Central America?
Anyone been to Shenyang?
Done business in China? Any tips or cultural things that would be nice to know? Traditions? Business card exchange rituals (like in Japan)?
Any certain gifts that my coleagues may like? The guy who came here a few years ago brought some rice liquor that could double as paint stripper. Nasty stuff.
If you had to choose between spending a weekend in Beijing or Shanghai, which would you choose and why?
