Winter tire choices? Nokian WR / H2, Alpins / Blizzak?

I'm trying to decide on new snow tires for a volvo 850 and a saab 9-5. Has anyone got experience with the Nokian WR or Michelin Alpin? There are now several flavors of the Alpin to keep it confusing.
In the past, I've not liked the short life of the early blizzaks going to an all season, but understand that the new ones stay a winter tire for the life of the tread. Anyone got an idea of how that's working?
In the past, I've liked the Nokian H2's the best, and I've been mixed on the current Gislaveds I've got (although they were used when I got them).
Right now I'm probably leaning toward a Nokian H2 if I can find them for not to bad a premium or the Alpins which can be had for a relative bargain at Costco or BJ's. My parents have been really happy w/the Alpins on both of their vehicles, but while they do have a driveway from h*ll, they don't tend to drive during storms, and I do.
I'd appreciate any "snow's on" experience though!
thanks!
