Alpins are not particularly good in heavy slush b/c the ribs are more-less continuous. Alpin Pilots would do better, but (at least at Sam's Club) are not the bargain that the lower speed ones are. For snow or ice, and on dry roads the Alpins are very good. WR tend to be less expensive than H2 and are more widely available (even on=the-shelf in Canton Ohio), and are excellent on dry and wet roads, very good in snow, slush, and ice. H2s are better in snow slush and ice than WR, but much worse on dry and wet roads.
I use WR 225-50-16 VR on my Aero - the dry handling is barely different from the OE Michelin Pilots, and in snow, it rocks!
