The other side of the coin is that you are learning different skills that although they may seem mundane at the time....you never know when you will use them down the road. You develop as a person doing things like that even when you don't realize it.
You say you're not cut out for the 9-5 thing but...step back and look at what you do day to day. It's probably not what a typical 9-5'er does. You are getting into different areas each day as opposed to a guy tightening the same nuts for eight hours a day at a factory. Making sales calls aren't fun if that's not your thing but you can't help but aquire some skills from doing it.
I'm by no means advocating staying at your present job if you're unhappy. I'm just saying that no matter how crappy the job is....try and take something away from the experience. My job now is alot like yours....I'm in control over 5 different things on a slow day. No, most of those things are not what I was hired for, but....I can't tell you how much I've learned by doing other jobs. That's either the beauty of or the downfall of working for a small company. I'm not paid as well as I should be either but my experience will only help me when I do change jobs.
Be sure of what you want and/or expect out of grad school. Don't do it as an escape from where you are now....do it because you can't imagine not doing it....especially a Phd program.
Just some advice, not criticism.
Good luck in your decision!
