Saab vert over my 4x4 Pathfinder. And that was before I bought snow tires. For $500 in snow tires you'll have a vehicle that will handle bad weather much better than any ladder frame SUV, and you'll save $500 on gas in a year.
Unless you are going someplace where you'll need a lot of ground clearance any reasonable car will be safer than an SUV, and the car based AWD SUV's will be safer than truck based SUVs. I drove a Jeep Cherokee for ten years, and the difference in control is incredible. And that's with a convertible, which isn't as stable as a standard car.
SUVs have their place - you can tow more and carry more than a lot of cars but if it's driving in bad weather that concerns you you can do a lot better than all of the trucks you mentioned.
