How old is your "new house"?
You mentioned a fuse box which leads me to suspect older wiring.
Assuming it is fairly new, you should have three wire receptacles & wiring.
Have the condition of your existing circuit wiring checked and as others have suggested, get an electrical load calculation done. Some loads will not occur at the same time (such as cooling & electric heat) and there are also use factors that are applied.
Depending on where you live, there will most likely be electrical permits and codes to deal with.
Also, you could get the electrical connections in your service panels checked for tightness.
You mentioned that your lights dim when the furnace blower kicks in. Are they on the same circuit? Current National Electric Code calls for central heating units to be on a dedicated circuit. A separate circuit for the furnace should take care of the lights dimming issue.
