Original red DI, 97k miles, 1996 SE turbo, had it since new.
Car just stopped running on the highway, no warning, no misfire, no sign of being starved for fuel. Battery new, starter works, car turns over fine. NO burning smell from DI, everything looks clean, just the dielectric grease on the rubber from when new plugs were put in 2-3 weeks ago. No diagnostic codes from the OBD 2 reader. That is why I want to confirm DI is/is not bad before I order a new one, or have it towed to the shop.
I turned the DI over carefully, set it on a towel and left the cable connected. Inserted four NEW 6es-11 plugs, grounded each one to the neg bat terminal using a test lead and a good size clamp to the threads.
When I push the plugs in to make contact and release them, they immediately rise up from the tension in the rubber, air, whatever. So, no spark... can't very well hold them in with my hand, and don't want to mess up the rubber seals at the tip of the boots.
