DI cassette v. alternator Posted by Peter [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: DI cassette test, Spiros Trianta, Mon, 3 Jan 2005 15:39:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
As far as I know, the non-turbo 2.3L 'S' engine has a normal set of alternator wires going to each spark plug, a real alternator attached where the rest of us have a leaking plug in the valve cover, and a conventional knock sensor... so your car is a DI-free zone, :)
On the turbo, the DI cassette is what makes a high voltage from the low voltage ECU signals with the help of some circuitry, so the spark plugs will fire. The turbo ecu also monitors combustion in each cylinder individually through the DI cassette and the resistor spark plug instead of using a knock sensor.
(God knows how they ever made engines run without electronics with just those mechanical doodads, let alone produce a horsepower or two <chuckle>)
