is it somehow your fault that they didn't make any money.

I would probably go so far as to write a letter to that sales manager expressing how I felt, and indicating that they blew their chance to earn my business. I would also let them know that because of this, I would be taking my business to dealer 1 or far away.

Customer service is something that I value tremendously, and I will pay more for something because I know that the company cares about me as a customer. This is why I drive a SAAB. When I was car shopping, I met my indy. I was 24 (a kid), but he took the time out of his day to explain everything to me about the car, and continued to do so for each and every repair. He also helped me out when I was purchasing my next car, and helped me negotiate the seller of my 9000 down to a fair price. It's because of his customer service (and the friendship that developed) that I invited him to my wedding.

Customer service is also why I wear a North Face jacket, will switch to Apple computers after my home PC dies, go to the meat department at Karn's, and will never, EVER, go back to Wolfe's for car repairs.

Somehow this turned into a rant, but this is one of those things that I feel strongly about.
