a rebadged and re-trimmed GMC truck will bring people to Saab and begin to build some new owner loyalty. Hard to predict. The additional concern is that the TrailBlazer/Envoy is not a particularly good SUV. Consumer Reports--which a lot of people base car-buying decisions on-- panned it as being behind the rest of the mid-size SUVs available. Maybe Saab has done enough to the chassis to improve it, but it is still a truck.
What I wish we were getting as the 9-7 is the Caddy SRX. It is distinctive, has a good chassis (from CTS sedan), isn't truck-based, and when you look at it you can just imagine it with a Saab grille.
The other thing I think of is that the 9-7 is an SUV in a time when SUVs are falling out of favor due to gas prices. If prices stabilize it may be OK for a while, but I think we're gonna see SUV sales drop more over the next few years.
We're dumping our Exploder soon, and I know someone who just got a 9-5 wagon and is dumping their Suburban.
