If Saab would market the 9-5 wagon as the "un-dorky" wagon, they would probably sell a lot more wagons than "me too" SUVs.
Has anyone done a comparison of the Trailblazer EXT LT vs. the Saablazer Arc? For the extra $8k, you get leather seats and a nicer grill, but 2 less seats. It's not any safer or better handling. For the same seating number in the Trailblazer LT, the price difference is $9k.
Now compare a Trailblazer Arc to a 9-5 Arc wagon - 3 more cubic feet of storage, but 10 mpg less fuel efficient, 1000 lb heavier, $3K more, with AWD you'll probably never need. The additional HP is negated by the additional weight.
With a clever marketing campaign, GM could have easily cashed-in on the utility and economy of the 9-5 wagon without resorting to diverting much needed funds into "developing" an new Saab SUV.
Am I alone here?
