Don't know about Florida but here in LA, CA you can't really get away from the first day at least were you have to show up and get in the system. But if you are rejected, you are good to go for another year or more.

When you are actually called up the the specific case room it is a no brainer to get out.

My citizenship was not more than some month old when I got called and being curious about the system I wanted to see how it played out.

It was some hours of waiting until I got assigned to a case together with some 40 others and we were seated in the court room where they picked 12 + 4 alternates people for the jury seats and the layers for each side started to intervju them one by one.

Man was it boring!

Hours later when all 12 + 4 were intervjued they started to discard them one by one for one or another reason and I was thinking, it is no way in hell that I would be picked if I answered the question from the lawyers honestly.

One question I remember clearly.
Would you beleive the testimony from a police more than the testimony from a witness that was also on the scene?

The right answer is, Oh no Sir, I would weigh all the witness reports equally and make up my decision from that.
My answer would be, Hell yes. Here you have a professional police that is employed, paid and trained in collecting data and remember how it played out compared to a bystander that might be influenced by whatever reason.

Granted, the police man might not be right but I would still weigh his/her word more than the other witness.

So I beleive that I may never get picked if I just answer the questions honestly.

I can't say that I'm overly impressed by this system with 12 jurors picked from the street compared to the Swedish system with professional jurors, but I guess it have worked so far if you have enough money to defend yourself.
