Jeff,
Where do you live? SAAB fans in the USA can't get Sentronic. I saw one Sentronic NG900 made by an ex-employee of SAAB USA at a SAAB owner's convention. That is probably the only sentronic in North America. He had to order individual parts and build the transmission for himself.
Anyway, it is fun to shift gears by hand with a manual transmission, but I think the clutch really connects the driver to the driving experience of shifting gears and connecting with the road. Even with the "paddle shift" F1 style shifters, you don't have the connection with the road that you get with a clutch and manual shifter.
But with a pure manual transmission, you can't relax in city traffic and put the car in "drive". I still think the manual transmission keeps driver awareness high, so it's a more fun (and safe) motoring experience.
Randy
