We had a side by side in last house, and a top freezer here until we re-did the kitchen. We've had a bottom freezer (Kenmore, but it's really Amana) for 4 or 5 years and it is great. Would never go back.
The bottom freezer is great because you are in and out of the main section all the time, but open the freezer much less. It's nice having all your regular stuff at eye to hip level. My wife has a tender back, and having the main section up top is much easier on her.
As with most fridges these days the cooling fins are on the bottom, so be sure tto vacuum out under the unit regularly.
