The nice thing about Guzzi's is that you won't really need service on it until you need new tires, unless you can mount the new ones yourself... Oil change is a pita without a center stand, though, which on my bike is an option. If you haven't done any LD trips yet, see if you can borrow a bike, or rent one, and do 150 or 200 miles in a day. It can be real hard on your posterior. The main problem with MG is the seats, you need to add some padding to the stock one. The Yamadog I had had a really comfy seat, just not a comfy highway bike. One interesting story: I had the hard bags installed on my MG and thought the mounting was sub-standard, but didn't really do anything to fix it. One day, cruising down 95S got a wide open stretch and decided to open 'er up. Was doing about 100 and a guy comes honking and flashing lights up behind me. Pulled into right lane and he rolls down window to tell me one of my bags departed about 5 miles back...
Circled back and found it, but it wasn't really salvagable (had my 6' chain in it, that helped give it a good weight to abrade away most of the corner of one side....) Now I have a nice set of leather saddlebags!
In any case, that's to say, the bike felt fine to me at 100+ even unbalanced. My Virago always felt VERY small and light at 60+ speeds on the highway. A good tourer will feel solid at speed. From what I've seen of the newer Beemers. they look like they'd be great on the highway (not to say the older ones wouldn't). But the MG bikes are definitely cheaper to maintain and way more unique. But you can't get ABS on them!
